About the Workshop:

Join artist Kaas (Kaashif) Ghanie for an engaging artist talk and ceramics demonstration exploring the ideas, techniques, and processes behind his practice.

The session will begin with an artist talk, offering insight into Kaas’s contemporary ceramic practice, his cultural and personal influences, and the development of his exhibition Breaking Bread. Following the talk, Kaas will demonstrate his approach to throwing unconventional square forms on the pottery wheel, sharing techniques for building, shaping, and refining forms beyond the traditional round vessel.

Participants who bring their own leather hard pieces will then have the opportunity to explore sgraffito, a surface-decoration technique involving carving and scratching away layers of clay to reveal contrasting surfaces underneath. Through hands-on experimentation, participants will create their own designs while learning how mark-making, pattern, and imagery can transform a functional ceramic form.
